Ennio Morricone (1928-2020) was an Italian composer born in Rome who has been composing and arranging film music since the 1950s. He has worked on the music for numerous classic films, including "Once Upon a Time in America," "The Mission," and "The Untouchables." In 2016, he won the Academy Award for Best Original Score for "The Hateful Eight."
"Cinema Paradiso" is an Italian film directed by Giuseppe Tornatore and released in 1988.
Although Morricone had been working on another film at the time, he turned it down after reading the script and accepted the music for "Cinema Paradiso." Ennio himself said that the "Love Theme" was originally composed by his son Andrea and that Ennio made some changes to it.
This arrangement for symphonic band was created for a typical medium-sized ensemble. Oboe, bassoon, and es clarinet are optional, but care has been taken to ensure that a satisfactory sound can be obtained even if these instruments are not available.
The solo parts for each instrument are intended to be performed in concerto style with the band and solo instruments. In this case, please enjoy the performance in various ways, such as by taking a break from the tutti parts that carry the melody.
